Game face

06 Apr 2003

So I’m in this generic, junk-on-the-walls sports bar, where everyone is watching the KU game. Kansas wins handily. As the announcers start talking about the next game, the girl standing next to me leans in.

“Who do you think will win?”

I shrug my eyebrows, then stare into the distance for a second, deep in thought, and take a sip. “It’s hard to say at this point; it’s really anybody’s game.”

A pause. “You don’t know who’s playing, do you.”

My head drops in shame. “I can’t read or write.”
