Dr. David Schmidt has found out why the shower curtain sucks in. I’ve wondered, and I always assumed that it was a thermal thing- hot water heats the air, it rises, colder ambient air from the room is pulled in. But no, in fact, careful observation would have shown me that the effect happens with cold water, too. In fact, Schmidt’s research concludes that the water spray creates a mini hurricane inside the tub, and that’s what pulls out the curtain. Hooray for science.
