My sincere condolences, Derek. I know what a hard time this must be for you and your family. You can never be ready for a blow like that. But remember, someday, you’ll be together again, in that Great Hard Drive in the Sky.
(And in the meantime, let’s all learn a lesson. CD-R drives are too cheap not to own one. Keep your data organized so that you can easily back it up. Don’t forget to include your bookmarks. Keep your email in an IMAP store, off-site, and periodically download the whole thing for the archives. I find it sufficient to burn a CD or two every month. As a door-to-door life insurance salesman might say, it’s a small price to pay for peace of mind.)
